Most Islamic Empires (of which there were many) called their currencies Dinars (دينار) or Dirhams (دراهم) since these were the Arabic translations of the Latin "Denari" which was the Roman term for money. Today, coins in most Arabic countries are called Fils (فلس) and Dinar or Dirham is used for the currency in general.
