The effects of the America's international economic and political isolationism is that they lacked a market to sell their goods. Another reason was that there was a widespread unemployment in the country.

After WWI, they didn't want to associate themselves with any more foreign countries because they didn't want to be a part of the packs that were forming in the WWI to make them join the war so they isolated themselves. As an effect, with the industrial revolution and many other technological booms the United States was behind on what was currently happening in the world. Onto the WWII, the isolation made it harder for the United States to fight in combat because they were so behind on weaponry and didn't want to take part so they didn't join the war until halfway through which caused many more lives to be lost than what could have been prevented.

After WW 1, there was strong political and popular sentiment to try to avoid becoming involved deeply to not at all, in the affairs of Europe. They did not wish to become involved in another major war. When the League of Nations was formed. the US President, Woodrow Wilson who had been a major force in proposing the League, was embarrassed in that the US Senate refused to ratify US entry into the League.Whether American participation in the League might have prevented the aggression by Italy, Japan and Germany is impossible to say with any certainty. It can be said, however, that having another large democratic nation in the League would have enhanced it. Instead, the USA went into an isolationist mode.
