Persia set about consolidating its empire without the Greek city-states, however the ongoing wars between the cities which it had sought to control continued with increasing ferocity. It intervened by providing a fleet for the Spartan alliance which helped in defeat of the Athenian empire. Even so the Greek city wars continued with varying alliances, and to avoid the inevitable spillovers, the Persia ruler had to declare the 'Kings Peace', threatening retaliation on any of the Greek city-states which broke it. Persia also reclaimed the Greek city-states in Asia Minor which it had ceded independence to in the settlement of the Persian War.
