In 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks stood up to the status quo by remaining seated on a public bus after a white man demanded she give up her seat for him. Rosa Parks didn't budge when challenged. She was arrested, fined and made famous for her stand. She is known as a Civil Rights Figure of that tumultuous time and was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 1996.
Rosa Parks had many accomplishments. She she stood up for herself. She was riding a bus when the bus driver told her to give up her seat so that a white man could sit down. She said no. She stood up for herself and was arrested.
Her civil disobedience inspired the bus boycotts which eventually led to less segregation and more equality.
She joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1943 and devoted her life to the cause of American civil rights and equality, until her death in 2005 at age 92.
She also inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.
Her most well known quote was "The only thing that bothered me was that we waited so long to make this protest happen....."
She was a brave person.
