What were the positive results of the end of the Cold War?
For those people that had knowledge of Atomic Bombs, it meant that we didn't have to wake up one morning and look out the window and see some large "mushroom cloud" appearing over some city. We all, for the most part, expected it, but didn't let it ruin or run our lives. We lived our daily lives routinely...if it happened...it happened...there was nothing we could do about it. With the end of the cold war...we don't even think about it anymore...it's over.
The Cold War began almost immediately after the end of World War II and in order to keep spirits high and depict the war on a positive note, the government regulated and censored media. Many people in the media reacted negatively to this and began speaking out and were branded Communists. This was the time of McCarthyism.
The Cold War ended in1989,with the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. When Mikhail Gorbachev assumed power in the Soviet Union in 1985,the end of the Cold War was near. When Poland elected a non-communist government, they expected that Gorbachev would roll in with tanks, but he refused. This was the beginning of the end of the Cold War.
