Lasting Results are not pretty if the atom bomb is detonated at ground level or used as a bunker buster. Such ground level burst interfere with the chain reaction. The plutonium/uranium chain reaction occurs within 55 nano seconds of detonation so most of the material ignites and releases most of the energy if detonated at 2500 AGL, but if the bomb detonates at ground level than a significant mount of radio active material remains unburned (dirty bomb). This is bad, very bad. The 1/2 life can be from 700,000 years to 1,000,000 years for the "unburned material! Ugh!!!! I.E. if some of the plutonium rods that are stored at our nuclear power plants somehow got scattered into the atmosphere America would be a very quiet neighborhood for a very long time. A small piece of this material (3mm) can emit 200,000 rads! Any living thing coming in contact with this stuff would be dead in a matter of days if not hours. There you have. Nuclear War anybody?! In my humble opinion, mankind is doomed and their demise is going to destroy life as we know it on planet earth! Sad very sad indeed....

The repercussions of the atomic bombs being dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were vast.

  • Well over one hundred thousand people from each city was killed both instantly and from radiation burns and sicknesses. Many died years later from Cancer and other ailments. So over two hundred thousand people died.
  • The Japanese Military officials did not care about the deaths of people at those two cities because they considered the damage the same as the cities hit by incendiary bombs. They were not motivated to give up.
  • Emperor Hirohito was motivated to give up. He had to go behind the military officials' backs to surrender to the Allied Forces.
  • The Cold War had started prior to the atom bombs being dropped and this escalated Josef Stalin's resolve to continue the Cold War and build up his forces with nuclear weapons and jets.
  • Korea could have been victims of Atomic bombs if it had not been for President Truman preventing it.
  • The development of the atomic bombs taught Americans how to use and harness atomic energy. Some atomic energy electrical generation plants were built and provided electricity for decades.
  • Nuclear fission and fusion both provide energy. One is safer than the other. America needs to recycle spent nuclear rods as they do in Europe.
