Sea level rise is one threat for mankind. Many scientists think that feedback loops will accelerate sea level rise. One example is the melting arctic ice causing additional ocean warming and then more ice melting. Carbon dioxide in the air causes the oceans to become more acidic and warmer, both of which are detrimental to coral reefs, whose ecosystems feed millions. We have no idea of what the future holds in terms of climate. Models that have been used to determine future climate have not held true in periods as short as ten years. Some climate experts, including those involved with the IPCC and NASA, feel that the next twenty years or so are possibly going to be cooler than the past thirty. Our current weather pattern, in the United States, is one of several possible outcomes and certainly should not be considered the only possible future weather pattern.
