Population, the total number of inhabitants constituting a particular race, class, or group in a specified area. All of our lives we have heard many things involving population, such as baby booms, mini booms, death decreases, and they used to mean good things, but today they are placing our world in peril. To many trees are getting cut down, people are starving, people are running out of places to live, and worse our supply of Natural Resources are slowing depleting. Sadly, most people do not know how big of a problem this is, but what are human beings supposed to do? Are we to cut health care since so many people, who years ago would have died, are living, co should we put a halt on the rate that people are having children? We must come up with a plan that everyone can follow, and if we unite as a people we can solve this problem before its too late. When people think of crowded countries, they usually contemplate places like the Netherlands (1,031 per square mile), Taiwan (1,604), or Hong Kong (14,218). "Even those don't necessarily signal overpopulation, the Dutch seem to be thriving, and doesn't Hong Kong have a booming economy and fancy hotels?" To give more current figures, the world's population will come from Asia and Africa, a report from the United Nations has predicted. The scary part about this is that it is still rapidly growing. Legal Immigration has recently amounted to more than 600,000 per year; illegal immigration is thought to be even greater. The greater number of births is due to the high proportion of young couples--themselves the product of the high birthrates of the 1950s, which in a number of years exceeded 4 million. In the 17th century the plagues stopped in Europe, but the emigration of Europeans to the Americas gave old diseases a new life they decreased the Indian populations, who were not biologically immune. (Grolier Encyclopedia) Even though the previous information may be outdated it still applies to this topic. We were granted the privilege of living in a world where, for the most part, all of our needs are able to be met. Populations with birthrates continuing at the primitive, or base, level of 45 per 1,000 people per year, and whose death rates have fallen well below 20 per 1,000 people per year, are growing by as much as 3. The researchers also asked outside experts to predict key outcomes, such as the number of children born to each woman. The must begin to get involved and do something about it to place the problem of over population under control. The 1990 census of the United States population totaled 249,632,692. More information on this important topic should be taught at school. It was once considered a tradition for a child to be conceived out of marriage, and if a child was conceived out of wedlock it was unacceptable.
