Sounds like bulbs need to be replaced--they most likely are double filamented-larger filament for tail lights and smaller for brake lights be a broken wire or a bad ground Depends on the car....most use 2 different circuits the top light going straight to the brake pedale switch and the tailights going through a control module THEN to the tailights. Check EVERY fuse you have in the car

How to repair 1994 Jeep grand Cherokee limited liftgate that won't open I hear the open sound but the latch is stuck?

I have had this same problem on two different Grand Cherokees. Over an extended period of time the latch mechanism get out of adjustment from the slamming of the reach hatch. It is very simple to adjust, but very difficult to reach. You must pull the reach hatch interior panel away from the door while it is closed. I don't think that there is any other way to trip the level. The small arm that trips the lock is held in place by a nylon keeper and must be adjusted. This is easy to do once you get the interior trim off and the hatch opened. Do not close the hatch again after the adjustment until you have tried the handle about a half dozen times.

Why would the back window on a 1996 Chevy Blazer not open when you push the button to open the hatch?

The blazer must be in park for the rear hatch button to work. If you have the blazer in drive the button will not open the hatch unless it is in park!!! If there is still a problem maybe try checking the fuses! The actuator could be broken in the rear that releases the window so you can open the back. This happened to my 2003 Blazer and my neighbor's 2002 Blazer. By removing the back panel (high likelyhood the panel will break when you remove it) and replacing the actuator that could solve your problem. Both I and my neighbor would have had to order the whole actuator in order to replace the tiny plastic piece that broke. Instead we drilled a whole and rigged it with some tough wire. Works now but we both have broken back panels...even the dealership broke one. Good luck. SEE RELATED LINK for 1997 Blazer
