What would cause a 1988 jeep Cherokee not to start after changing the spark plugs and oil turning over strong but not starting?

i have had this happen many times, the ost likely answer is that you somehow mixed up the plug wires and now the distributor is firing out of order this is a simple problem to fix, simply find the firing order and rearrange the wires on the plugs.. This should fix your problem I ope it helps

ANother reason...since jeeps are notorious for rear main seal leaks, and valve cover leaks....which also happen to be right above the crank position sensor which is located on the top drivers side of the transmission bellhousing. you should be able to do a visual inspection of this from under the hood with a flashlight. if it is cruddy...and I suspect it is...then hose it with degreaser and let it sit for 20 minutes....then rinse off sparingly with a hose and let it dry for an hour or so. this should clear things up. Cost of degreaser?-(2.99) Cost of proving to some d**khead you know how to change plugs and wires and he is a dumba**?-(priceless!!!)
