These trucks have a part knows as a CAD (center axle disconnect) located on the axle tube between the front differential and the passenger side frame rail. These parts are either vaccuum or heat driven, and move a sliding collar inside the axle tube to connect or disconnect the two halves of the passenger side axle. The CAD drivers are known for failing, and this is the most likely culprit. Other problems could be electrical, vaccuum, or internal transfercase failures.
