Different problems cause different noises. A squealing noise may be coming from th ebelts. A hissing sound may be the result of a vacuum leak. A tapping metal sound may mean you have a lifter stuck. Try to isolate the noise, find out if it is from front, back, top, bottom or which side of engine. Try to describe the area it is comign from, and what it sounds like. With all the moving parts being comprised of so many different materials, it is impossible to answer this without some clues and better description

A self-tapping screw can be used to join two pieces of plastic or metal with simple holes drilled into them. A "normal" screw requires one of the holes to be "tapped" - a spiral has to be cut into one of the holes to accept the screw. Tapping holes is something of a game of skill; the tapping tools use very hard, brittle steel and it's easy to break a tool in the hole.
The warm water will cause the metal lid to expand if poured mainly on the lid. This expansion will often loosen the grip of the lid and it can be unscrewed. Sometimes, gently tapping the side of the lid on the floor several times, has the same affect of loosening the lid.
