the shifter seat and bushing need to be replaced. these are located at the bottom of the shifter and are in stock at Toyota dealers, very common item
AnswerThis is correct, my Toyota truck was popping out of 2nd and 4th, when I pulled the gear shifter out of the transmission ( with the help of a chilton's repair manual )the seat was in a hundred pieces. After replacing the seat and bushing my problem went away. AnswerI also had this issue and took it to my local mechanic after being told that I needed a new transmission by Amaco. He charged me $40.00 to replace the seat and bushing. It worked like a charm on my 91 Toyota pickup.Wiki User
