The battery in the remote needs to be replaced.
Chances are that the overdrive solenoid (forgive my spelling) inside the transmission needs replaced. Not a job for the light-hearted.
Overdrive is controlled by the shift solenoid, and vacuum modulator. the kick down you refer to is not overdrive but passing gear and should also be controlled by vacuum.
George the Third - intermittently mad by that time, and effectively replaced by his son, the Prince Regent in 1810.
If an alternator light keeps coming off and on, this may indicate that the voltage output of the vehicle is going up and down intermittently. This may mean the alternator may need to be replaced soon.
a bulb is bad and must be replaced

If your hazards still work, most likely your turn signal relay needs to be replaced.
no, there are several transmissions that jeep used, they had transmissions for 4 cylendars, v-6, and v-8 applications. and like everything else, some had overdrive, some didnt. there might be one or two trannys that would interchange but your best bet is to go with the same one that you have.
Its automatic until needing replaced
on my windstar speedo only worked when it wanted to I replaced the speedo head 2 years later still works great
If it is a manual transmission the clutch needs replaced. If it is an automatic the clutches need replaced. This is providing that you are selecting a gear and it is engaged
If it has an automatic transmission, it probably needs to be replaced or rebuilt.
automatic transmissions do not have clutches. If it is slipping it may need adjustment but probably will need to be replaced.

One possibility is that your valve body in the automatic transmission needs to be rebuilt, or replaced. It's best to have it taken care of as soon as possible, because you may end up losing gears. Shift changes may become rough, or the transmission may not shift in or out of gears.
Ok, I went to the mechanic and he told me he had replaced a contact that makes sure a valve in the carburetor closes. The contact worked intermittently so hence the problems. (I live abroad and don't master the language quite yet. I think this is what he explaine d me).

Not if the servo motor is seized. It will have to be replaced.
If you are having trouble with your overdrive, it could most likely be the end clutch also known as fourth gear that needs to be replaced. i had to replace mine about 6 months ago. it doesn't cost too much to replace either.
