What would cause a vibration-roar at a certain RPM on a 1991 Toyota Camry - There is no apparent impact to engine performance when it roars?

My recently acquired '91 Camry 4 Cylinder-Automatic is vibrating/shaking when it shifts from 1st to 2nd when cold. This condition goes away after the vehicle warms up to operating temps. My best guess is that there is something wrong inside the transmission, such as improperly adjusted bands or disintegrated clutch discs(?)and perhaps even the torque converter. Because I don't know everything about the automatic transmission that is just a guess. It could very well be that a broken motor mount or a worn CV axle or loose bolts in the engine support braces could be causing the problem. When I find the solution I will let you know!

AnswerToday I put a new CV axle on the passenger side because when I put the front of the car up on jackstands and let it run in gear while I crawled underneath and listened and watched I heard the CV axle making a noise similar to what I hear when it vibrates. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem. I drove it for almost an hour before it did the vibrating thing, so that blows my theory that it only happens when the engine/trans is cold. I need to replace the other CV axle too, and perhaps the wheel bearings and the rear motor mount, however I don't think any of those things will make the vibrating go away. It sure feels like the transmission to me.:-( When I called the parts house to get a price for a reman unit... OMG over $2100!
