The electronic control module needs replaced. Make sure that when you take it off and go to buy a new one. Look at the leads that come out of the electronic control module box. You'll see that where they go in is a plastic piece...whatever color it is doesn't matter except when you buy a new one. Make sure the new one has a blue plastic colored piece when you buy it at the auto parts place due to the fact that the blue one is Ford's high performance duraspark ignition. You'll get better lasting performance and maybe better gas mileage.
If the engine stalls and won't restart for several hours on a 2003 Santa Fe, there is a problem with the computer in the vehicle. Check to make sure all computer fuses are working properly.

Electrical circuit do not go dead but theyreliably shut down. If there is a thermal protection circuit supervising the heat dissipated that would the circuit to shut down until it cools and start again and probably repeat the cycle.
It dosen't...
The battery and charging system needs to be tested. It sounds to me that the alternator is not doing its job.

Injector is not fully shutting off and is leaking down and loosing fuel pressure. This will cause fuel to accumulate in the oil pan, and mix with the oil. This is a bad thing, and will cause engine damage. Replace the faulty injector, and change the oil/filter.
