Dual element bulbsYou may be referring to a dual-element bulb ie. bulb #1157. When the headlights are turned on, the taillight element comes on with the brakelight element working regardless of the lights being on or off. Of course this applies only to certain make and models. Some have separate bulbs, but I don't think this is what you were referring to...Wiki User

if you recenly replaced bulbs u may have installed them backwards they should be running lights and brake lights if this is the case they maybe installed incorrectly
