Check your vehicles o2 sensor. These sensors only work after they have reached full operating temperature. Up until then they operate in open loop mode. To test, try unplugging the sensor and driving around. If the car doesn't spit and stutter after time has passed, you've found your problem. Remember, when you unplug you o2 sensor, the vehicle check engine light should turn on.

it will feel as if you are running out of gas, the car will start sputtering.
fuel pump
depend serveral things , you have to tell more of the problem
your fuel pump could be bad if it runs for a few seconds .
It could be the factory security system, is the light (security) flashing? *depends on what it is doing. dead start, clicking, battery connection bad or battery dying/dead; sputtering, almost starting without sparking, the fuel pressure is low and needs to build before it starts; bad injector system, fuel pump, clogged fuel filter.
what could cause a car to run for 20 minutes and dye and waiting about 5 minutes it will start back up and run for a couple of minutes and then have to wait and it will start back up and go for about 5 minutes and dye again. Chevy cavalier 2004
Try the fuel filter.
Start with changing the fuel filter at the right front of the fuel tank, underneath, in a recess.
check timing. timing advance. or slack in timing chain/belt
More than likely the gas has water in it.
When you are accelerating and your vehicle is sputtering, it is usually a misfire in the engine. Meaning one of your spark plugs or wires is malfunctioning. A simple tune up will fix this problem. Sputtering caused by a misfire is usually accompanied by a jerking of the vehicle when Idle. IF you are at a stop sign and you let go of the brakes, your vehicle will start jerking forward on its own without pressing the gas. try a tune up.
