Northern polar bear's need the arctic ice pack to hunt seals, etc. During the Arctic summer, when the ice pack is reduced bears often go hungry, as seals are further out into the sea. During this hungry time, a polar bear often starts to scavenge along the shore lines, and are more likely to enter human settlements.
