I should note, I'm decent at car repair, and have recently (2000 miles ago) changed the entire top portion of the engine, and the transmission. It's a 4 cylinder `94 topaz. I'm thinking it may be a piston rod, but, am still unsure. and what you may need for your car is a tune job and for that you might want to buy some new mufflers for your car and that will make it noisy they way you like it
A hole in the muffler would cause a knocking sound in your muffler. A loose exhaust pipe can also cause a knocking noise.
The Hummer H2 is a 2005 SUT with the 6.0L Vortec and a Magna Charger supercharger. It runs great with plenty of power, but I'm concerned about some noise I'm getting out of it. When I first start it up, everything sounds fine. After running a mile or so, I start to get a knocking sound. I only notice the sound when idling, not when running.

i don't know if it helps, but my '99 legacy outback was making a knocking sound. turned out that the oring on the brake caliper pin had worn out, and the pin was kind of knocking around.
