Bad gas or exessive timing. I have one of these, check for overheating (bad thermostat), check for proper fuel pressure--possibly clogged fuel filter or a kink in the fuel line. Or like mine I had a head gasket blow between two cylinders and it would only knock under load.
It is over by the starter, and screewed into the engine block.

The 2001 Chevrolet Suburban is equipped with one knock sensor. The knock sensor will be attached to the back of the engine.
The knock sensors(2) are in the valley pan beneath the intake manifold

you're better off replacing the knock sensor . it adjusts the timing automaticly by sencing any knocking sound & does the needed adjustment .
Yes it will leak out of the hole that the sensor is screewed into.
If it has a computer it is the knock sensor.
The knock sensor, in your 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, can be found on the front of the engine. The knock sensor is near the top of the engine.
It is screewed into the side of the engine block, right in front of the starter.
