Soak garlic cloves in twice as much cider vinegar overnight. Then have a tablespoon in warm water three times a day. Don't drink it neat. Garlic is anti-viral, cider vinegar draws out these qualities from the garlic.

What are three characteristics of influenza that are not true of the common cold?

The flu has moderate to severe muscle pain, there may be vomiting, high fever and fatigue. In the early stages it can be hard to tell the difference between a cold and the flu. But when the fever and fatigue set in, you know it is the flu.

Does the flu always come with a fever?

The answer would have to be "almost always", if there is no fever or a low grade fever, the ill person will likely be immuno-compromised (have a disorder of the immune system) or they have a common cold virus instead of a flu virus. Symptoms can often be the same, except flu almost always involves high fever and a cold does not usually cause fevers over 101F.

Should a 27 year old woman who has 102.8 F temperature after she received a vaccination for regular flu one week ago a see physician immediately?

That is a high fever, it would be wise to contact a doctor to see if you need an appointment for an examination. A reaction to a vaccination would not cause a temperature that high. And it takes about two weeks for immunity to develop after a flu shot, so there is a possibility of the flu, either the type that the vaccine was for or another type of flu. Better safe than sorry. Take some Acetaminophen. If this does not bring your fever down to 101o, call and speak to your doctors' nuse or the ER nurse. Do NOT take aspirin. The nurse will advise you if you need further evaluation.

Can you have swine flu without a cough or congestion?

You can have swine flu without fever. Fully 1/2 of people with swine flu have had no fever. I did not have a fever, but I ended up with acute pneumonia after only 24 hours. It went straight to my chest! Here's an article about having swine flu without a fever: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/13/health/13fever.html

If you Had Swine Flu Would you Be Cold Or Hot?

Having a fever can make you feel cold and shiver from sweating. It is nature's way to cool you off from a fever. You may also feel hot with a fever. You can have a fever with the Swine Flu (Novel H1N1), so you may feel either way from the fever. See related question links below for more information about swine flu symptoms.

Can a fever from a flu shot be contagious?

If you had a flu vaccination and soon or immediately after getting it you had a mild fever and other mild flu symptoms caused by the vaccination, then the fever you have would not be due to contagious disease but, rather, due to the immune response that the vaccination caused in your body (which is how the shots give us immunity) and it would not be from infectious disease or the flu. These mild reactions to the flu shot usually only cause a low grade fever under 100F and last only a few days. However, there is also always the possibility that you actually have the flu, since it takes about two weeks to develop full immunity from an inoculation and if you caught the flu before the vaccination, it could be what is causing a fever. Use careful hand washing technique to protect others in case it is actually the flu and until you have gone 24 hours without a fever.

the shot is to prevent infection not to treat it When you're sick with a fever, you may not mount as good of an immune response to the vaccine.
