What could be wrong if you have power to your refrigerator and freezer but nothing is cooling?

Can you tell if the compressor is running? If it is, is the fan motor in the freezer running? Door switch may have to be pushed in, in order to find out. Is there a fan motor on the bottom of the refrigerator? If so, is it running? Is the thermostat turned up high enough to bring on compressor? Is there an air damper? May look like the thermostat. It should say something like colder freezer or colder refrigerator and have numbers or letters on it. Try setting it mid ways. Also set the thermostat to a higher number. Is the light on in the refrigerator? This will tell you if you have power to the refrigerator and not just to the plug in. If the compressor is not running and the thermostat is turned up, try locating the defrost thermostat. On most GE's and Hotpoint's they are located on the bottom front of the refrigerator. On other brands, they can be located with the thermostat and air damper. Some are on the back. Look for a small round dial on the timer if you can find it. The timer is probably about two and a half inches wide, about three or three and a half inches tall and about two inches deep. There should be a plug on it with about four wires on it. Don't touch the wiring or anything that may shock you. If you locate the timer, take a flat screwdriver and insert in t in the small dial. (about 3/8 of an inch in diameter) Turn the dial slightly, if you hear a distinct click and hear the compressor, the timer probably needs to be replaced. Also, if the back inside of the freezer or possibly the bottom of the inside of the freezer has a heavy frost or ice buildup, you probably have a defrost problem. By turning the defrost timer dial until you hear a distinct click and the compressor shuts off you have successfully put the refrigerator into the defrost mode. Wait twenty or thirty minutes. It may click back into regular cooling mode bu itself, if not turn the dial slightly and the compressor should come back on. If the freezer is frosted up and you do turn the timer dial until it clicks and if the compressor shout off, you should hear a sort of sizzling noise after a minute or two. This is the frost melting inside the freezer. If you don't hear the sizzling, the defrost thermostat or defrost heater, both located in the evaporator coil section of the freezer, may be faulty and you should get a professional to look at it for you. These are normally very reasonable to replace. As a retired service tech. I couldn't agree more with the answer except to add check the condenser to see if it is clogged and the condenser fan is turning.

What are the pros and cons of a quiet air compressor?

There really are not any cons to having a quiet air compressor. The pros are many. There's nothing like a quiet running machine without all the clicks and clanks.

Why would a refrigerator keep tripping the breaker?

Earth leakage or problem with the switching when the condenser clicks on is often the problem. This often causes an electric 'arc' which grounds to Earth, causing the breaker to switch. It often happens when fridges & freezers get ol

1999 Mercury Mystique with 70000 miles When you have the ac on and you are sitting at a light the rpm gauge goes from 600 to 800 every time the compressor clicks on Is this normal?

it sounds like your low on freon. the idle kicks up to comensate for the extra load from the compressor . if its low on freon the compressor short cycles causing the eratic idle

Air compressor clicks on and off?

It's a normal process of "cycling", wherein the compressor is capable of moving more freon gas than the system is capable of handling. Pressure switches within the A.C. system switch the compressor on and off, in a normal cyclic state, to keep the pressures from going over a safe preset level.

Signs of bad air cond compressor ford focus?

Things to check first: Turn on the A/C control - open the hood and look at the compressor and observe whether or not the clutch is engaging (clicking on and off). If it isn't then check the fuse/electric relay that control the compressor. If the compressor operates but cycles rapidly (clicks on and off), that could be a sign of low refrigerant, have it checked. If these easy do-it-yourself checks are inconclusive then you need a mechanic.

When refrigerator compressor makes a noise approx how long will refrig last?

Often, the rubber bushings that the compressor sits on will deteriorate or harden with age, and the normal noise that the compressor makes will be telgraphed into the frame and amplified. If that is the problem, you can just ignore it, or replace the bushings very cheaply. Many good fridges have been thrown out because of this simple problem. If it is an actual internal problem, there is no way of knowing how long it has. You might want to start shopping for a good deal while you have warning. If the noise is a simple "ka-chunk-ka-chunk" when it clicks off, ignore it. Unless it bothers you. Will run for years like this. Do not replace a bad compressor. Too many variables have to all go just right for a good installation. Buy another fridge. Winston

What causes the AC compressor to continue running and the freon to continue to circulate after the fan inside the house clicks off?

Main components of AC are compressor & fan motor. The louvers are operated by fan motor which is powered separately. When the louver is off, it doesn't affect compressor work. - Be-Cool Expert <><><> possibly a stuck contacter in the outdoor unit. or your indoor fan is overheating and shutting off <><><> could be many different things. Depends on what system you have. Some of the newer machines are controlled by integrated circuit boards. Its a possibility that your indoor blower could be tripped off on thermal overload but honestly I doubt it. Possible contact could be stuck on compressor. T stat could have a problem but would need to know if the compressor ever turns off after the "fan inside the house clicks off"

What is PAR in red remover?

its how many clicks you have to do it in. so if it says par=2, it means you have to do it in 2 clicks or less. but don't let the clicks get you confused with the par. clicks is how many clicks you did it in last time and par is how many you actually have to do it in. you only pass when the clicks is equal to the par.
