Do they make a reverse flow water pump for a Chevy?

Yes and no. Yes: If you have a reverse flow engine which would be an LTI or L99 which were found in big Chevies, Buicks, Corvettes and Camaros, Then you need a reverse FLOW pump. It is driven by a shaft from the timing gear, so does not have a pulley on it at all. It does not match up with a non-LT-1 block. No: If your water pump has a pulley it can be either standard rotation or REVERSE rotation. If it is driven by a V-belt it is standard rotation. If it is driven by the back side of a serpentine belt then it is REVERSE ROTATION. This pump will have a pulley that is smooth and wider than a V-belt. These pumps will physically bolt up to the same block but the REVERSE Rotation spins counter-clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine. My '93 Suburban has a Reverse Rotation pump because it has one serpentine belt running all the accessories. When I put a new Edelbrock pump on it I made sure to get a Reverse Rotation pump. Your auto parts store genius should be able to get the right pump for you if you know the make and model year.

How can you tell if a water pump is reverse rotation?

the pulley will sit on the top (or smooth) side of the belt, so it spins the opposite direction of everything else that runs off the belt. in the case of my vehicle, a 1998 Pontiac grand prix 3.1 L V-6, this is the standard rotation. i had the same question when i was pricing water pumps, and only 1 that i found specifically said reverse rotation. i called the parts store to check, and they said that all the pumps for my vehicle are reverse rotation, even if the part description doesn't specifically state that.

What is the difference between a reverse rotation and a standard rotation water pump impeller?

Reverse rotation water pumps turn in the oposite direction of the crankshaft and are typically used with surpentine belts. The back (smooth) side of the belt is routed around the water pump pulley, thereby rotating it in the oposite direction of the crankshaft.Standard rotation water pumps turn in the same direction as the crankshaft and are typically used with V-Belts.Turning a water pump in the wrong direction will cause overheating.

Is a 2000 s-10 4.3litre water pump standard or reverse rotation?

The water pump would be a standard rotation. The serpentine belt moves clockwise on the model truck which would make it standard not reverse. With a serpentine belt system like the one in the 2000 S10 4.3, any pulley that is grooved turns clockwise. Any pulley that is smooth turns counterclockwise. The water pump pulley on that S10 is smooth and turns CCW.

Is the distributor rotation on a Chevy 350 clockwise or counter clockwise?

Not true, if you look at a 1989 Distributor rotation for example on a LO5 350 TBI. you will see the distributor rotation is counter clockwise. Looking at the cap where it is square #1 is on the right then #8 next to it on left of square then so on in a counter clockwise rotation. #1 and #8 are positioned toward firewall. Believe this started in 1988. Now on my 1987 LO5 350 it's a clockwise rotation distributor with #1 up front toward front of car with #8 to the right of it and so on in a clockwise rotation. There also seems to be a lot of confusion on rotations of water pumps. My 1987 GMC Jimmy ( full size) LO5 350 was equipped from the factory with a combination serpentine/v belt System with one of the v belts running the water pump. Because the v belt runs the water pump it is a clockwise rotation pump. On 5.7 350 with full serpentine systems they are reverse rotation. If the pulley is of the v design it's a clockwise rotation pump if it's smooth it's a reverse rotation. Belt goes around the circumference of belt like the v belt does it's a clockwise rotation. If the back portion of the belt( serpentine ) contacts against smooth pulley it's reverse rotation.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1982 AMC Eagle?

Remove fan shroud, radiator, fan clutch and fan blades. Then the water pump bolts will be accessible. You can avoid removing the plate that goes across to the P.S. pump, but you do have to remove the bracket bolted to the top of the engine block that supports the belt tensioner. Be sure to use a reverse rotation (serpentine belt) or a standard rotation (v-belt) water pump depending on your vehicle.

How you can stop reverse rotation of cw pump?

Are you sure it's pumping in the wrong direction? It should be pulling water from the radiator through it's lower hose. Water will be returning to the radiator through the upper hose past the thermostat after it warms up. If your water is flowing the wrong direction and you have a mechanical pump ( one with a belt on it ) you will have to replace it. If you have a uni-belt setup (serpentine belt), it may be on incorrectly. If you have an electrical water pump ( probably aftermarket ) reverse the polarity on the power connection.

Can a belt not installed properly turn the water pump in reverse?

Maybe.

Is there a difference between 289 and 302 radiator hoses?

yes look at the belt system. If it is the the older style v-belt drive with a standard rotation water pump the inlet and outlets are on the passenger side of the radiator. If you have a serpentine belt drive like the 80s-90s EFI 5.0, it will be a reverse rotation pump and the outlets and inlets on the driver and pass. side of the radiator. In short if it is an eirly 302 that has not been tuched it is the same.If your car has had a later 302 engine in it then there will be a difference and you have to google mustang cross over tube WakerOne

What does the serpentine belt do on a Dodge Dakota?

It transfers the crankshaft rotation to the alternator, water pump, ac compressor, and power steering pump.

Why would a Saturn sl2 overheat after changing the serpentine belt?

Not installed properly? operating water pump in reverse direction?

How do you replace belts on a 1985 Chevy Celebrity V6 2.8 motor need to know the rotation?

To replace the belts on your 1982 to 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity starting with the outermost belt: First take note of the locations of each belt so you will know where to put them back. Then loosen the adjustment bolt on each driven unit and slide inward to release the tension and remove the belt. It may be necessary to loosen the mounting bolt to slide the unit over. Repeat that procedure for each remaining belt. Reinstall in the reverse order. Rotation is not critical for this kind of belt.
