The question should almost be "Where were they NOT sent?". During WW2 Commonwealth (Empire troops) were often lumped in with British troops. Almost every part of the Commonwealth provided troops and many expatriates from non-commonwealth countries volunteered (at their own expense) to fight. British troops were also present in all of the British possessions as far flung as the Falkland Islands, British Honduras, Mauritius, Malta, Gibraltar and Samoa. Most American histories forget (or ignore) the fact that WW2 is generally accepted to have started on 3 September 1939--not December 1941, and there were many active war theatres before US involvement. Prior to US involvement British & commonwealth troops fought (active battles) in the following places. 1939-1940 France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Libya, Ethiopia, Somaliland, Eritrea, French West Africa, Palestine. 1941 (before the Japanese entered the war) Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Madagascar, Iraq, Greece, Crete. Dec. 1941-1942 China, Hong Kong, Malaya, Sumatra, Java, New Guinea, Burma, French North Africa (Algeria), Libya, Egypt. 1943-1944 Sicily, Italy and back to France. Belgium and Holland (part). Australian and New Zealand troops were also in action on almost all actions in the Pacific from 1943-1944 Commando and SOE (Special Operations) troops were also active in all of the resistance movements in Europe, including Yugoslavia, Greece, Albania and in the Far East. 1944-1945 Denmark, Germany, Austria, Greece, 1945-Germany, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Japan.
