The 26th President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt served two terms from September 14, 1901 to March 4, 1909. Roosevelt as Vice President succeeded President William McKinley in 1901 when McKinley was assassinated, and was then reelected into a second term in 1904.
He was elected in to the Vice Presidency with William McKinley in the 1900 election, and assumed the Presidency when McKinley was assassinated in 1901. TR was elected as President in the 1904 election, and although eligible, did not seek re-election in 1908. He later regretted this choice and ran unsuccessfully as a third party candidate in 1912.
