I don't know the year but I can say that motor oil was never invented. Being a motor engineer myself I can advise that Animals and Vegetables were used in the very early days to create oil. I am not saying people used to kill animals, what I am saying is that dead animals were used for the lubricants. Before this the main parts of engine's like crankshaft bearings were not lubricated, they used leather as bearings, which frequently wore out and needed renewal.
Technically, oil was not invented. It was discovered around the year of 1859.
