The traditional year identified as the beginning of the Roman Republic is 509 BC (or, BCE). In this year (or, at least, around this time), Romans threw out the last of its dictator-kings and established republican government. This "Republic Period" would last until the rise of Caesar Augustus as Emperor in approximately 27 BC (or, BCE).

According to tradition, the Roman Republic was founded by Lucius Junius Brutus in 509 B.C.E after the expulsion of the last kind of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus. For more information, see Book One of Livy's History of Rome, which describes the traditional story believed by ancient Romans: http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3atext%3a1999.02.0026

ancient Rome is now modern Rome. It is now the capital of Italy. It is in the region of Lazio

in central Italy, on the river Tiber, 16 miles form the coast. To answer the question, the traditional date for the founding or "forming" of Rome is 753 BC. However is is certain that there were settlers living in the area that became the city before 753. These early people banded together for mutual benefit (trade, defense, etc) and founded the city of Rome.
