Berber Muslims were expelled from Spain in 1492 and from the Spanish colonies in 1543. In the case of the Spanish mainland, this removal occurred over 750 years after their arrival. In the case of the Spanish colonies, this occurred within 50 years of their first arrival. There is no place in Spain or the Spanish territories where African Muslims lived for 200 years or something very close to this.
The Religion was dominant in Southern Spain from 711 until 1492, under the rule of the Arabs and Moors of al-Andalus.
They had significant powers in Spain for about 300 years. They arrived in 732 and within a couple decades they ruled significant parts of it. The earlier inhabitants of Spain, led by the Visigoths, resisted the Muslims and fought back. By the middle of the eleventh century, the Visigoths controlled most of northern Spain, but the Muslims ruled most of the south. So at this stage you could not say that either side "ruled Spain": both ruled bits of it. The war continued for the next 400 years. The Visigoths gradually gained ground. The Muslims were finally expelled from Spain in 1492.
The Moors
But the Reconquista, or Reconquest, was not complete until 1492. In 1479, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile married, uniting their kingdoms, and thirteen years later their armies expelled the Muslims from Granada.
Spain did not exist until 24 years after the Moors were expelled. In 1469 Queen Isabel I of Castile and Leon married King Ferdinand II of Aragon. These 2 monarchs co-ruled the 3 kingdoms after the Moors were expelled in 1492. The 3 kingdoms were not united to form, what we know as Spain today, until all three were inherited by their grandson, Carlos I. Carlos I of Spain was also Carlos V, Holy Roman Emperor.
Spain was conquered my the Moors (also known as African Spaniards) who were North African Muslims. They ruled for over 700 years until they were driven out by Christian armies. Hope this helps! R. Rhodes
782, from 710 until 1492.
The resolution was the forceful eviction (by 700 years of war) of the Muslims from Spain from European Christians.
Islam civilization in all branches of science and architect was transfered to Spain and from Spain to all Euorope. Despite that, no single Spanish was forced to convert to Islam although Muslims controlled Spain for more 800 years. This is clear from the evidence that the number of Muslims remianed very small minority after these 800 years.
About 780 years. A Muslim army invaded Christian Spain in 711 and Islamic Spain lasted until 1492.The Muslim armies began their conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in 711 AD. They were finally expelled in 1492 AD when they lost Granada.
The Moors controlled Spain for over 700 years, until 1490-92. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand expelled them from Spain. The Aleman (sic) remained as converts to Catholicism.
Arab Muslims conquered most of Spain in a series of battles from 711 C.E. to 750 C.E. However, the Catholic Kingdoms of northern Spain were able to expel the Arab Muslim conquerors over the course of the subsequent 700-800 years.
