Jefferson Davis was appointed by the Confederate Congress to be the president of the Confederate States of America in 1861. At first he was the provisional president. Soon after, the Confederate Congress elected Davis to a six year term that could not be renewed. The Confederate Constitution called for a one term of six years for any Confederate president.

The Confederate States of America existed from 1861 to 1865. It was formed when seven southern states seceded from the United States in response to President Abraham Lincoln's election, and was dissolved after the defeat of the Confederate Army in the American Civil War.
Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808 and was elected provisional president of the Confederate states in February 1861. He would be 52 years old at that point. After winning regular elections in November of that year he would be 53 years of age.
The act of withdrawing a state from the Union of the United States is called "secession". By definition secession has happened in many countries throughout the years, but the most relevant example of secession in the United States occurred in the 1860s with the secession of 11 states from the United States who formed their own government and declared themselves the "Confederate States of America". What resulted was the Civil War, which lasted from 1861 until 1865 when the Confederate States of America were defeated and forcibly re-entered into the United States.
The designated term of a Confederate president was six years. After that, there was no reelection process. This allowed the Confederate president to not be concerned with the reelection process. It allowed a president to devote a full six years of service without the concern of reelection.
The Confederacy only existed for a few years. The Civil War was lost by the Confederacy which was then reabsorbed into the union. Consequently they had little time to develop.
Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederate States of America. In February, 1861 Montgomery, Alabama became the first capital city of the Confederate States of America. The capital was moved from Montgomery, Alabama to Richmond, Virginia, in May 1861. It served as the capital from May 29, 1861 to April 2, 1865, when it was captured by Union forces. When Richmond fell to the Federal army in 1865, the Confederate government travelled to Danville, Virginia. Danville was the seat of the Confederate government for only eight days, April 3-10, 1865. On April 9, 1865 Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, bringing an end to the Civil War after four years of battle.
Texas could and did secede from the Union with the rest of the Confederate states. Texas declared its secession from the United States in 1861 to join the Confederate States of America. When the war ended the slaves were freed and Texas, as were the other seceded states, subjected to reconstruction, a process that left a residue of bitterness among whites. Whites were not allowed to vote for a certain time, lost all their possessions and liberties, etc.
