When you start your car it cranks up but when you hit the gas it shuts off right away why is that?

IF it starts, and the engine is running, look at look at the speedometer and on same gauge you should see Rpm . if the RMMs(revolutions per minute) is very low and you give it sudden gas and it stalls. then chances are it is caused by a faulty idle air control valve.
