At the first when Italy invaded Ethiopia by encroachment policy Ethiopians defeated Italy during emperor Miniliek ,which successfully won battles around 50, i thing adwa with Italians is the most decisive and greatest war, the westerns did it purposely specially Britain promised Italy to give her a colony in Africa but after their defeat Italy her self considered Ethiopia as an independent country and Britain responded after Italians humiliation in Europe they told the other countries that Italy was the weakest country ever which are third in military power next to France and Britain.

then after almost 70 years Benito Mussolini tried to have his revenge in Ethiopia but the league of nations didn't respond b/c it was dominated by European powers and they didn't do anything but allowed Italy to continue b/c they were afraid that German and Italy would start WWII but it did so after a little while Britain supported the emperor Haile Selase the others betrayed Ethiopia especially USA ,and the only reason that Ethiopia was defeated was b/c Italy used illegal weapons like gases and they declared war unexpectedly when Ethiopia was expecting the league to stop Italy. And Italy was preparing for a war from the very beginning .But after-all Ethiopia wasn't is the only country that haven't been colonized.

There is no single reason for Ethiopia, but several. It was invaded twice by Italy, in 1890s and 1936. The French were also interested in Ethiopia, the Europeans powers couldn't agree amongst themselves on how to divide and share Ethiopian; this was one of several reasons that helped Ethiopia.
