Yes. If it's made of wood then it will deteriorate. Made of bad metal, It will rust and decay and leave toxins in the water. Only a few types of metals can be sunk and not worried about. Shape makes no difference. :3

What is the value in creating artificial carbon sinks?

The great forests of the world used to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it. They were carbon sinks, but they exist no longer. If we can create artificial carbon sinks they will reduce the effects of global warming by removing CO2 from the air.

What is considered a carbon sink?

A carbon sink is a natural or artificial storage for carbon dioxide. The largest carbon sinks are the oceans and other open water sources, and plants. Artificial sinks are landfills and underground sequestration facilities such as depleted oil and gas wells.

Why does a concrete canoe float but a concrete block sink?

The block isn't aerodynamic, so it sinks. The boat, no matter what it's constructed with, will be able to float if it's in a shape that will be aerodynamic in water.

When placed in water object a floats and object b sinks the objects are the same sizeand shape describe the masses of the objects?

Does the shape of the object determines how fast it sinks in water?

No. Buoyancy depends only on total volume of water displaced and the mass of the object, not the shape of the displacement. However, if the change in the shape affects the volume of water displaced, then the bouyancy of the object is affected. Scuba divers with wet suits know that the volume of their wet suit compresses as their depth increases, causing the suit (and the diver) to become less bouyant.
