p. 13-2 of Texas Driver's Handbook:
#7.Persons riding two abreast shall not impede the normal and reasonable flow of traffic on the roadway. Persons riding two abreast on a laned roadway must ride in a single lane.
When it can be done w/o impeding any other traffic flow.
Slow down and let the car pass, and then pass the bicyclist
Slow down and let the car pass, and then pass the bicyclist
Stay well behind the bicyclist until he turns off or gets in a designated bike lane. If you have a lane next to you, make a lane change and pass him when it is safe and legal to do so.
No. Bicycles travelling on a public roadway are subject to the same traffic laws as motor vehicles. Making a U-turn and driving into oncoming traffic would be unlawful for a motor vehicle and thus, also for a bicyclist.
Stay behind the bicyclist until you can safely get around him.
There could be several reasons why a traffic accident in a northbound lane will cause a traffic jam in the southbound lane. If the street is only two lanes, traffic in the southbound lane can be interrupted while northbound traffic is let through. The southbound lane may also be closed off to allow emergency vehicles access to the accident scene.
"Under a traffic light" implies that it is at an intersection. You are not allowed to change lanes while passing trhough an intersection, you must maintain the lane you are travelling in.
Since the bike lane is assigned to the bicyclist, they always have the right of way in their lane. If you need to move to the right to make a right turn, you must yield to any bikes in the bike lane.
In the US, it is legal to overtake and pass a bicycle. However, as with all road obstacles, the passing must be done safely. As well, the bicyclist also has "rules of the road" responsibilities, including not to impede traffic and to use all precautions to bike safely... including to move as far right and off the road as possible so that traffic has the right of way.* Important - Bicycles must travel in the same direction as traffic which is on the right lane (right shoulder for bikes) in the US, and not ride "against" traffic. City traffic and bicyclists often have more risks to each other, because there is no road shoulder.
signal your turn prior to crossing through the bike lane at the dashed striping. yield to any bicyclist. you may enter the bike lane at the intersection or driveway after first checking to make sure that no bicyclists are present if there is no right turn lane
In most instances a lane of travel will be marked as the lane that is merging with the other lane or lanes. If so, the lane that is NOT ending has the right of way. When entering a freeway or Interstate roadway, the traffic already on the main lanes of travel has the right of way and the entering traffic has the duty to "merge" safely with the traffic already flowing on the main lanes.
No a car is not allowed to drivein a buss lane at all. exceptions are to turn out of the road it is driving on unless otherwise instructed by either a sign or a traffic police directive.
