Whatever it takes to fill it up. Park the van on a level surface, drain the oil and change the filter. Add 4.5 quarts and start the engine. Let run for 45 seconds, and then shut down. Wait 45 minutes and check the level. Add enough oil to fill it up to the full mark. You now know how much it requires.

A 2005 Chevy Tahoe will take a maximum of 5. 5 quarts of oil. As always, it is best to check the level on the dipstick when changing oil.
99 Chevy Metro 1.0L motor holds 3.7 quarts. 99 Chevy Metro 1.3L holds 4 quarts. it is recommended when changing the oil to put in 3 quarts first, check oil level on dipstick, then add the difference to bring it up to the full level mark.
