Though there were some early attempts at "safe construction" and "prevention" of fires, it was the young Benjamin Franklin who, in about 1736, began urging people through his "Pennsylvanian Gazette" to begin the establishment of fire-fighting companies.

No, such things had existed in England and other parts of Europe for centuries.

However he did establish the Union Fire Company, sometimes called Benjamin Franklin's Bucket Brigade, which was a volunteer fire department in Philadelphia in 1736. It was the first fire fighting organization in Philadelphia, although it was followed within the same year by the establishment of the Fellowship Fire Company (which he was not involved with and probably would have formed at the same time as it did had Franklin been completely idle in this area).

In 1736 Benjamin Franklin created the first fire department in Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania and in 1752 he was responsible for making America's first fire insurance company.
