Columbus never actually discovered America. His first landing was on the island of Hispaniola, on the Eastern side of the iland that is now the modern day Dominican Republic. He only discovered various islands in the West Indies (which he thought were the East Indies), and part of modern day Central America.

Christopher Columbus was the first European to land on Puerto Rico. He landed November 19, 1493 on his second voyage to the new world.
There were First Nations settlements already there, and lots of clean land ( meaning lots of nature that was unharmed).
Amerigo Vespucci planned to go to the same places that Columbus had gone. He wanted to see for himself what Columbus had experienced, but he missed the West Indies altogether. One his first voyage he was not the captain of the ship.
