"Lucifer"- The Shining One

A descriptive designation applied to the "king of Babylon." (Isa 14:4, 12) The Hebrew expression thus translated (NW,Ro, Yg) comes from a root meaning "shine." (Job 29:3) The rendering "Lucifer" (KJ, Da) is derived from the Latin Vulgate.

The "shining one" is represented as saying in his heart: "Above the stars of God I shall lift up my throne, and I shall sit down upon the mountain of meeting." (Isa 14:13) Biblical evidence points to Mount Zion as the "mountain of meeting." Hence, since stars can refer to kings (Nu 24:17; Re 22:16), "the stars of God" must be the kings of the Davidic line who ruled from Mount Zion. The "king of Babylon" (the dynasty of Babylonian kings), reflecting the attitude of Satan the god of this system of things, indicated his ambition to lift up his throne "above the stars of God" by desiring to make the kings of the line of David mere vassals and then finally to dethrone them. Like stars that shed light, the "king of Babylon" shone brightly in the ancient world and could be termed "shining one."

To find out who and how old Lucifer is, it is often easiest to work backwards from the known to the unknown.

1. When Christ returns He will bind the animal called the dragon which is also known as the serpent or Devil or Satan:-

Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

2.

This creature is a deceiver:-

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

3. Eve was deceived by this serpent /Devil/Satan :-

Gen 3:14-15 KJV And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: (v.15) And I will put enmity between thee [the serpent] and the woman [Eve], and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

4. Satan fell from heaven:-

Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Satan was thrown out into the earth together with his angels:-

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

5. Lucifer also fell from heaven :-

Isa 14:12 KJV How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!,

Also see other versions :-

ASV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! ...

(BBE) How great is your fall from heaven, O shining one, son of the morning! ...

(GNB) King of Babylon, bright morning star, you have fallen from heaven! ...

(MKJV) How you are fallen from the heavens, O shining star, son of the morning! ...

(WEB) How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! ...

7. The word 'Lucifer' means 'light bringer', and Satan is also known as an angel of light:-

The Hebrew word translated as 'Lucifer' in Isaiah 14:12 (How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!,..)is 'helel' meaning, 'to shine', or 'to bear light', and when Jerome translated this Hebrew word into Latin he used the Latin term "Lucifer" , and the translators of the King James Bible simply transliterated this term from Jerome's Latin Vulgate version into the English.

2Co 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Put simply, Lucifer is Satan.

8. The 'king of Tyre' is not a man but refers to Lucifer/Satan.

Eze 28:12-17 KJV Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. (v.13) Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. (v.14) Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. (v.15) Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. (v.16) By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (v.17) Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

He had been fully wise, and perfect in beauty, had been in Eden, was a created being, was the anointed cherub that covereth, had been at the Throne of God, had been in the midst of the stones of fire, had been perfect since he had been created until he sinned, and had been cast out of heaven. The 'king of Tyre' is clearly Satan.

9. Lucifer rebelled against God :-

Isa 14:12-15 KJV How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (v.13) For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars [ie other angels: see Job 38:v.4, v.7] of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (v.14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. (v.15) Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

In The Bible 'stars' often refers to 'angels' . The 'sons of God' refers to angels, not men: (men are sons of Adam). As angels celebrated at the creation of the earth they had to be created before then, and as all of them sang for joy this must have been before Lucifer fell as a result of his sin because there are no fallen angels:

Job 38 v:4,7 .4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?....[ie created the Earth before Satan's rebellion] 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

God created Lucifer, who later became Satan, before anything was created including Time: he was created untold aeons ago in eternity past and is therefore timeless.

When did God create Lucifer?

In the beginning was God. God always was. God created all things. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Since Lucifer was part of the heavenly realm he would have been created in the first 6 days of creation as stated in the Book of Genesis. As stated in Genesis, Job, and the Gospels Lucifer (aka the devil) was always subject to the Lord, his Creator.

Can lucifer be reconciled with god?

It appears that Lucifer is the antithesis of all that is good. God is all that is good. So, it is unlikely, but - with God being involved - nothing is impossible. Lucifer is a creation of God - and even he may repent of his actions. An all-merciful God would then be obliged to accept that repentance and accept Lucifer into heaven once more.

How old is Satan?

Satan, also known as the Devil or Lucifer, is as old as God and Heaven themselves: they are timeless. They always were and always will be; there was no birth of either God or Satan and there will be no death of either, either. =) Satan used to be an angel-- one of the closest to God himself, and this angel was named Lucifer. Lucifer tried to rebel against God, questioning why God alone was superior to the rest, and as punishment God exiled Lucifer and all those who followed him from Heaven. Thus, the reign on Earth of Satan and his demons began.

Is Lucifer mentioned in the Old Testament?

Was there a gnostic sect that viewed Jesus and Lucifer as two sides of the same person?

No, Lucifer was jealous of God because he was always being surrounded and worshipped by the rest of the angels. When God created Lucifer, He gave Lucifer a beautiful singing voice and good looks, so Lucifer wanted the attention that God was getting. Some of the angels started to praise Lucifer when one of the higher rank of angels kicked Lucifer out of heaven and onto Earth.

Did God created Lucifer?

There are a thousand gods, each by a different name to a different religion but one we all believe in: The god who knows right from and is the map to guide us and only does what is right. Why did god create Lucifer? He felt it was the correct thing to do. god did not create lucifer any more than he would create a murder or robber. we all have free will and know the difference between right and wrong. just as Adam and eve choice for themselves so we all must choice for our self. taking in knowledge of god will help us make the right decisions. john 17;3

If God created the Devil why would He destroy him?

God created Angels, and the Angels were flawed like man is today. The Angel known as Lucifer was one the most powerful Angels. Lucifer got jealous of God's power and wanted it for him self. The ensuing war between God and his Angels against Lucifer and the rogue Angels led to Lucifer's defeat and God banished him from heaven but sent him to rule Hell as a compromise for allowing Lucifer to exist. Lucifer to this day is still jealous of God and hates God for banishing him.
