The Iolani Palace was completed in 1882, during the reign of David Kalakaua, the last king of Hawaii. It had electricity years before the White House. King Kamehameha V took reign in November 1863 King Lunalilo took reign in 1873 King Kalakua took reign in 1881 King Kalakua and Quen Kapiolani traveled a lot and while he did his sister Liliuokalani ruled in his stead. When Kalakua died in 1891 Liliuokalani became Queen. She appointed her neice Princess Kaiulani as her heir.
