Martin Luther King did not have one defining moment to become famous. Many of his acts did lead him to the headlines of news papers and media at the time but his beginnings to become a somebody was when he started preaching in a Baptist Church. This turned him into becoming a community leader, he gained respect of the locals and everything thus followed.

He was a Civil Rights Activists that became well known through his tactics for gaining equal rights for blacks. He drew large amounts of crowds to his speeches. One of his most renown speech I have a Dream gained much attention towards his goal of equivalency towards whites. He also believe in peaceful protest much like that of the Knights of Labor led by Powderly.
