In the 1930's, Britain and France had a defence agreement with Poland which stated that if Poland was attacked, Britain and France would come to its aid. On 1 September 1939, German forces invaded Poland, so on 3 September 1939, Britain and France declared war on Germany.

Who was the british PM who attempted policy of appeasement with Hitler?

Neville Chamberlain .Neville Chamberlain, although it should be stated that he didn't WANT to appease Hitler, he was just desperate to avoid another apocalyptic European war.He remembered the holocaust of World War 1, and did not want to see Britain dragged into such a conflict again. He thus tried to contain Hitler's activities as best he could by getting him to sign the Munich Agreement of 1938, in which Hitler pledged not to invade any further nations after having annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia (most Austrians were Nazi's themselves in any case, and WELCOMED Hitler's invasion). But Hitler broke his promise, and invaded Poland at the begining of September 1939, forcing Chamberlain to declare war on Germany on 3rd September.

What countries did Neville Chamberlain invade?

Neville Chamberlain - the British Prime Minister - didn't invade any countries. When Germany invaded Poland on 1st September 1939, Britain and France declared war on Germany on 3rd September and Britain then sent the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) to France to re-enforce the French Army. Unfortunately, both armies were thoroughly beaten by the superior German Army resulting in the French surrender and the British evacuation from Dunkirk - probably the worst defeat that the British Army has ever had.

What was Hitler's reaction to Prime Minister Chamberlain's letter urging restraint towards Poland?

British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain sent a personal letter to Hitler after the German-Soviet Non-aggression Pact was signed. He urged Hitler to avoid a war that would be a catastrophe for Europe. Hitler had already made up his mind to invade Poland, and replied to Chamberlain that Britain's assurances to Poland only caused Polish terrorism against Germans living in Poland. This of course was Nazi propaganda.
