The Talmud (Sanhedrin 39b) identifies Obadiah as the Obadiahu mentioned in 1 Kings 18:3, the righteous overseer of King Ahab's house, who risked his life to save 100 prophets from certain death at the hands of Jezebel.
Obadiah was a righteous convert, a descendant of the nation of Edom.
In his "MacArthur Study Bible" Dr John MacArthur says Obadiah was probably a contemporary of Elijah and Elisha, and wrote the Book of Obadiah soon after the Edomite assault on Jerusalem in verses 10-14 between 848-841BC during the reign of Jehoram of Judah.
Ovadiah lived in the land of the Ten Tribes of Israel in the time of Eliyahu (Elijah). Traditional chronology places this around 730 BCE, while non-traditional opinions may put it over a century earlier.
Born in Sechem, supposedly died in Samaria. In between, who knows for sure...
We don't know! He doesn't give any dates in his prophecy. However, it was probably in the ninth century B.C.
