Robert Palmer became a naturalized citizen of Switzerland in 1993, the same year he bought his home in Lugano, Switzerland. It took longer than he expected to become a naturalized Swiss citizen, and when this did finally occur, he was officially a dual citizen of both Switzerland and Great Britian. Palmer initially started spending large amounts of time in Switzerland in 1986 and determined at that time that it was his desire to become a naturalized Swiss citizen. In some interviews Robert Palmer identified himself as living in Switzerland prior to becoming a citizen, as that was where he and his family spent the majority of their time.
