World War One started in Aug. of 1914, Germany and the Austro-hungaria empire fought against Russia, France, and England. other smaller countries were involved or invaded. the united States entered the war in 1917 on the side of the Allies (France, England, Russia). The War ended with the a treaty in 1918. Depending on whom you ask world war two started with the invasion of Poland by Germany in Sept. 1939. England and France Declared War on Germany on the 3rd of Sept. 1939. Italy entered the war on the side of Germany in 1940 after the German Army had mostly destroyed the French Army in a spring offensive. The battle of Britain followed in Aug-Oct. 1940. On June 22nd 1941 Germany invaded the Soviet Union and marched almost to Moscow by December 1941. Japan entered the war on December 1941 with an attack on the United States Pacific Fleet December 7th 1941. The united States declared war on Japan on the 8th of December 1941. On December 11th Germany Declared war on the United States. Japan did not fight against the USSR (Soviet Union), so the Basic sides in World War two were Germany, Italy, Japan, Finland, Hungary & Romania fighting against England, France (knocked out in May 1940), Australia, New Zealand, Canada, The United States, and the Soviet Union.

After the Defeat of Germany in 1945 the USSR Declared war on Japan in August of 1945. In the same month the united states dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. After this Japan surrendered to the Allied Powers. Germany and Japan were both occupied after the war, and a treaty formally ending the war with Germany was sighed on October 24th 1951, and Germany formally became on independent country at that time. (even thought the fighting had ended in Europe in May 1945)
