Steam locomotives were first developed in Britain and dominated railway transportation until the middle of the 20th century. From the early 1900s they were gradually superseded by electric and diesel locomotives.

The introduction of electric locomotives at the turn of the 20th century and later diesel-electric locomotives spelled the beginning of the end for steam locomotives, although that end was long in coming. As Diesel power, more especially with electric transmission, became more reliable in the 1930s it gained a foothold in North America. The full changeover took place there during the 1950s. In continental Europe large-scale electrification had displaced steam power by the 1970s.

Are steam trains dangerous?

A bit. First trains are Always a bit dangerous, huge, Heavy things with very long stopping distances. If you get in the way, the train migh not be able to stop Before it hits you. Steam trains had lots of outside moving parts which could hit you or squeeze you. Then there's the hot steam inside. Some Always escaping from here and there. It could easily give you a nasty burn. And there's the fire inside, and sparks from the exhaust. Still, they ruled the rails for many years, so they weren't too bad.

Nothing. I think you meant to say running out of STEAM instead. Steam engines run when they have steam, and when they run out of it, they stop, so people say this when they are out of energy.
