∙ 13y agoThe Allies captured the Reichstag in Berlin on April 30, 1945. Hitler committed suicide the same day, effectively taking the Nazi regime with him, as all political power had been vested in him, personally. Admiral Karl Dönitz became president of Germany and immediately authorized the surrender. The first German Instrument of Surrender was signed by General Alfred Jodl on May 7th and took effect at 23:01 Central European Time on May 8, 1945, the date now known as V-E Day.

What happened to the Turkish empire?
