Though Egypt was conquered a number of times during the time, the pharaohs ruled from about 3150 BC to 343 BC, when it was finally conquered by Persians. Alexander conquered Egypt in 332 BC, and the Hellenistic dynasty of the Ptolemies then ruled from 305 to 31 BC as kings, though some people refer to them as pharaohs somewhat loosely.

What was Egypt like before Cleopatra?

Egypt was no different before Cleopatra, than it was during Cleopatra's rule. One of the key characteristics of ancient Egypt was continuity. The Ptolemies ruled from Alexandria, and favored the Greeks, but they also respected the culture of the native Egyptians to an extent. Part of this respect extended into the government with the same system of rule as the Egyptians had always known.Egypt was no different before Cleopatra, than it was during Cleopatra's rule. The Nubians and Egyptians were two different civilization. but they have been conquering each other on and off. When Egyptians defeated nubia they enslaved them. When you look at the pictures of the Egyptians some times you see dark slaves, those are Nubian. And yes they built the pyramids not Egyptians. Black slave power. Also if you look at the 25th dynasty, it was under Nubian rule.
