Why would you want to? Sand doesn't wear out. Sand Filters don't do a very good job of cleaning Pool water Until they develop a layer of hair, skin and other debris like bugs etc on top of the sand. Even then, a Cartridge Filter and DE Filter do a much better job.

Why is MY pool filter blowing dirt into the pool when I vacuum it?

Broken back wash valve part in a sand filter. Replace valve assy. Torn or damaged grids in a D. E. filter. Remove, clean and replace in the latter. Broken latterals in a sand filter - remove and replace. Unfortunately with a sand filter you have to remove all the sand first. Be sure that when you replace the #20 silica sand - you cover the stand pipe in the center of the filter other wise you are going to get a lot of sand blosing back to the pool for a while.kk

Why do I have sand in my salt water pool?

Aside from the possibility that some one has thrown it in there the only possibility I can think of is that the laterals in the sand filter are worn. when that happens sand will be blown out of the pool returns. Cure; empty sand filter replace laterals refill sand filter.

Why is there sand at the bottom of your pool?

Most likely you have a sand filter unless you live near the beach. The sand filter has baffles inside the filter and buried down in the existing sand. One or more of the baffles or the stack pipe is cracked. causing sand to return to the pool with the filtered water. Drain the sand from the sand filter and replace the baffles and/or stack pipe. Replace with new sand. Be sure to use approved sand for sand filters.
