I did find an article on the 2001 Tribute that says the timing chain should last the life of the vehicle. I guess that means if the 2003 uses a chain too instead of a belt then it shouldn't have to be replaced.
Okay - after a little more research, the V6 engines seem to have a chain w/o belt but the V4 ones have both - some on the Mazda forum have talked about information being in the owner's manual about when to have the belt changed.

The 2004 Mazda Tribute 4 cylinder model has a timing belt. The Mazda Tribute V6 has a timing chain................."BUKUBU!LT".........B I G Island HAWA!!......

No, timing chains are designed to last the life of the engine. They are normally replaced during a complete engine rebuild.
The 3.0 litre V6 engine in a 2002 Mazda Tribute has ( 1 ) timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are ( 2 timing CHAINS )
I have 2001 Mazda Tribute 4WD with 3.0 V6 and it uses timing chain, not a belt.
