After all these years it finally dawns, that the phrase (term) "Saigon falls" (which fell on 30 April 1975) shouldn't be "Saigon falls" at all...because South Vietnam fell that day not just the capital. Another words the whole "Republic of South Vietnam" collapsed not just the capital city.

The sensing is that historians didn't want to confuse the "Fall of the South" (US Civil War 1861-1865) with the "Fall of the South" (Vietnam War 1955-1975 or for some people 1961-1975); thus calling it "the fall of Saigon"...thus avoiding confusion for generations down the road.
